drop in the bucket

the ‘it’ bags for spring are shaping up nicely (lol, i crack myself up). while many of you are probably sick of me still yammering on about bucket bags, since they’ve been hot for several seasons, leave it to fashion to re-invent an old favorite. meet the bucket bag 2.0. – cleaner, smaller, more structured and many resembling an actual bucket. while the simon miller ring bag below is a hit with all the street style stars, its tiny open shape is perhaps not the most practical for shlepping your everyday essentials around. but practicality be dammed. it’s springy and cute, like carrying around a little pot of flowers. check out the looks and my favorite bag picks below….

werk it

I am probably the last person on the planet to watch the movie the Intern…I think it was a combination of being scarred from watching the first half of The Internship, the worst movie ever (titles are too close for comfort, imho) and hating Anne Hathaway. However a rainy night and HBO Go led me down the rabbit hole, and I ended up loving the movie. How precious was Robert De Niro??

One of my favorite parts, as with any movie, was Annie Boo’s serious work wardrobe. As a pretend fashion startup CEO, the girl had serious fashion game, a mix of tailored, slightly boyish pieces that perfectly matched the vibe of her Park Slope townhouse, despite sleeping 4 hours a night and having a toddler. Ah life according to Hollywood *sigh*. However, the movie did kickstart me to refresh my work wardrobe. A few new necessities…

#1 a pussybow blouse. this isn’t the first season of this school girl inspired trend, but the fall I’m seeing all sorts of variations popping up. I particularly love this slightly western dvf style, a bargain find from h&m and an all white version by frame.

#2 a light blazer. not just for memorial – labor day anymore, a well tailored white, grey or cream blazer has now secured its place on any working girls list of staples year round. try this one from RL’s club monaco, a classic by rag & bone (60% off!), or a light grey veronica beard.

blazer1

#3 borrowed from the boys footwear. footwear this fall is all about masculine-looking loafers, brogues and flat slides. i’m lusting over these metallic loafers, these tasseled loeffler randall oxfords, a classic jcrew pair of brogues and a copycat tabitha simmons black & white everlane pair.

shoes1

#4 a work appropriate sweater. for cooler days ahead, ‘nuf said. try stripes by sonia rykiel, ruffles by rebecca taylor (i tried this on at saks last week and may have to have it), an embroidered ann taylor and a rolled neck vince version.

sweater 1

#5 sharp accessories. to add pizazz to any old outfit, try a skinny leather beltsleek nude backpack (or this one!), and timeless square faced watch.

for all you working girls– check out this ellevate piece on the pressures of being perfect in the working world– definitely worth a read!

beat the heat

Whelp. In the blink of an eye, it’s already August in nyc. Cue steamy subways, daily afternoon thunderstorms, painfully frigid office buildings, and for me, and any other curly haired manhattanites out there, a hot mess of hair frizz. Most days my hair has been resembling a giant puff ball– and efforts to blow it out in an unairconditioned 5th story walk up just result in the need for a second shower.

For now, I’m throwing in the towel, and following in the vein of these wiser women….

All hail the hair scarf, ultimate frizz fighter (hider?). This weekend I plan to wear mine with something like this…

my favorite new marysia swimsuit

a pair of retro inspired sunnies

ultra flattering high waisted denim shorts

simple and chic knot sandals

Now work that updo, ownnnn it. I’m off to find a baby pool to sit by!

day late and a peso short

Lo siento chicas! I am definitely a day late and a peso short on the whole cinco de mayo thing. This gal has been the opposite of anything chic lately—lots of late nights, slimey take-out and getting through the grind at work. Luckily, however, the world of instagram was out in full force last night to show me all the amazing queso and corona I was missing. Don’t feel too bad for me though–I did manage to find this sweet little topshop number to lift my spirits.

tunic dress

If I had been lucky enough to spend my yesterday somewhere fun, lounging leisurely—I’d be wearing something loose, flowy and bright (the more embroidered the better!)—and pair it with some tassel sandals to really seal the fiesta-worthy deal (also die for these by the same designer)

cinco de mayo
1. striped mexi dress

2. loeffler randall tassel sandals (budget friendly version)

3. cabachon cuff

4. clear acetate frames

5. neutral woven tote (die for these straw bags here)

Also, a pair of clear sunglasses has been on my wishlist for this summer— ever since I saw them on my original girl crush OP. Round lenses are everywhere this season but I may have to try a cheap pair before I break the bank for this cutler and gross style.

A few more festive looks to cure the “mexi (i dont live in) cali” blues

1) adjustable ruffled maxi dress (worn on one of my bffs CHG here)
