back to black

the other day, while walking home from a haircut, i got caught in a torrential downpour on 7th avenue sans umbrella. as fate would have it, i **very coincidentally** was passing barney’s and went in to kill time in the makeup department until the rain stopped… whoops.

an hour and a half later, i was best friends with a sweet lady named Cherry (sidenote- we text now), and had tried on everything from basic work pants (these and these but ultimately this pair won, if anyone is in the market), to dresses for upcoming spring weddings (this was gorgggg but needs someone taller), to eventually landing on this funky isabel marant sweater. it’s baggy sleeves, fuzzy open-weave and oversized grommets make it just like the store it was in, completely downtown cool.

while i’m going to hold off until it hopefully an end of winter sale to try to snag it, it got me back to my favorite part of the color wheel- black. while black can get a bad rap for being boring, it’s the staple of any good wardrobe for a reason. my other current noir picks? this tiered blouse, a pair of printed joggers, moto style leggings, and work-friendly loafers. and for those of you looking for other slouchy weekend sweaters, try a cropped turtleneck, a fringed style, some stripes and a frayed millennial pink.

at least the rain had stopped by the time i was done! Xx

this or that

to splurge or to save—the age old question (otherwise known as my daily angst). lately i have been on a SERIOUS shopping spree (yes, the amount where caps lock is necessary). to many of my friends im sure they are thinking “when is she not”…but spring has sprung, grass is green and new york has once again become the most social place on the planet… so the need to up my wardrobe game has felt more like an affirmative “!!!” and less of a question. luckily to help me counteract some of the impending damange, ive rounded up five look alikes at more budget friendly prices–as buddha would say, its all about balance, right?

#1 one shouldered dress. for an upcoming fete i want to try a more full skirt style–thinking of trying this one shoulder cocktail dress or a nearly identical style in blush pink

#2 strappy nude sandals. to go with above dress, i love love love this nude aquazzura c’est chic style, worn by some of my favorite bloggerinas all around the web, but the steve madden doppelganger will have to do (especially since new york seems to be ruining all my favorite heels these days).Screen Shot 2015-04-21 at 9.20.10 PM

#3 striped crop top. i havent fully invested in the crop top trend, but may be willing to change my tune for this tie front crop top or a short sleeved one

#4 floral maxi dress. may or may not have swooped up a low backed version but i might sell my kidney for this dreamy thakoon

#5 flared jeans. this seasons denim is all about bringing back the flare (a move i applaud since they can make legs look long for days). sadly the last time this trend was in cycle was circa 10th grade, so i no longer fit into my high school faves–forcing me to debate the merits of a slimming dark pair by mih or getting my sea legs back with an inexpensive AEO pair
