mad for mango

this is a new type of post for me….the dressing room diaries… so please be nice! i would love feedback on whether you love or hate this idea.

last week i went to return a pair of pants at mango and ending up spending an hour in the dressing room with all sorts of great finds. they really have been nailing it lately. so, i decided to document the process!

i frequently feature items on le blog without seeing them in person, and i thought this would be a great way to show how some things look in real life, especially since there were so many things i loved but did not end up buying. a professional photographer/fit model i am not (I’m 5’3″ for reference), but hopefully you will still enjoy these behind the scene snaps!

the printed silk dress

i absolutely loved this dress and may head back to buy it. the deep V neckline and ruching was so flattering! it would be perfect for a summer cocktail party or wedding. i also tried on this green version, which has a similar garden party type of vibe but was a little more matronly. if you’re looking for an inexpensive way to nail the floral dress trend, there are a bunch more options on their website to peruse. lastly, i tried on this slinky jumpsuit –sadly it was way too long in the torso on me– but would be a great option for taller gals.

the knit tank

i loved the idea of this top, paired with some dark flared jeans for a 70’s sort of look. however, i couldn’t decide if the actual fit was actually more beverly hills 90210 in reality. this one didn’t come home but i went with a boxier tassel style to pair with shorts.

the funky flats

i was immediately obsessed with these embellished burnt orange mules, which reminded me of something a very cool interior designer gal i know would wear. as i have found with most mules, they run a tad small so size up 1/2 size. my practical brain prevailed, however, and i decided these silver ballet flats were something i could actually incorporate into both my corporate and weekend wardrobe. they are super comfy and look much like a newly released everlane style.

the oversized button mini

i wanted this dress after seeing it on the ever chic jacey dupree, but decided very much that, unlike her, i looked like a flight attendant in it. the black was a little too harsh on me and the neckline has a rounded collar that i just didn’t love. au revoir oversized buttons.

other things i purchased and didn’t document? this baggy short sleeve sweater, these marni inspired resin earrings, and a slouchy pair of plaid pants.

still want more mango? my online cart currently holds this striped linen dress which is a dupe for this hit faithfull style, a netted bucket bag (the perfect summer statement piece!), some high-waisted belted shorts that channel Julia Roberts in pretty woman, and an office friendly sleeveless knit. shop on #mangogirls!

mall rat

as some of you know, i have to do store checks for my job 2-3 times a week (tough, right?). but sometimes after trolling through various malls all around the tri state area, i feel like nothing more than a mall rat. like those kids who worked in the food court in Fast Times at Ridgemont High (the PEAK of mall rat days)

cher

the silver lining of all these hours logged is that I have seen every inch of new Spring product and there is some GOOD stuff to be found. luckily I am willing to share my secret finds with you, my loyal readers. here is the low down, by store.

#1 madewell: nothing better for spring than a slouchy t-shirt dress like this one, paired with some chuck taylors. also into a geometric lace tank. other discoveries include this seersucker anorak to fend off spring showers, an awesome tassel bracelet, and a classic summer staple–denim boyfriend shorts (bonus that they share an uncanny resemblance to this more expensive pair)

#2 Forever 21: another contender also bringing their A game has been Forever 21. I took a sabatacle from this store a few years ago, since I read this book, but sometimes you just can’t beat it for a few trendy items to add to your mix. i stocked up on these simple sandals in two colors- the rose gold is so good! and had a great find in this rag and bone t-shirt knock off. also die over this great scuba crop top, and a button down shirt dress (which reminds of one i’m lusting over by Alexander Wang)

#3 LOFT: Ann Taylor’s younger sister has really stepped their game up this spring, with a ton of colorful Rebecca Taylor-ish designs. I am pretty obsessed with this lace tee, ending up buying this fun ikat wrap skirt. Other finds? this simple chambray dress,   a cool crochet sweater and fun printed d’orsay flats. also they have been running 30-40% off of everything, so there are some good bargains to be found.Screen Shot 2015-03-18 at 7.46.37 PM
#4 j.crew: j.crew is getting back to basics this season, but still has plenty of new arrivals to spice up your wardrobe. my favorites include sassy silky pants, a navy textured midi skirt, Mara Hoffman printed romper, pleated linen shorts, and a marni-inspired pendant necklace

#5 Banana Republic: new creative designer marissa webb‘s product won’t launch until April (you can tell this girl is excited)–but to tide you over, check out this melon colored shift, some distressed white denim, a striped tank and destined to be cool stacked heels

#6 piperlime: while piperlime isn’t a mall based store (unless you’re lucky enough to be in nyc) i cant stop drooling over this floral drop waist dress (perfect for work with a blazer),  fun fringe-y top (worn on one of my fave bloggers Natalie Mason here) and chanel inspired rebecca minkoff denim bag
