white out

with yet another nor’easter storm (UGHHGHGHhhh) arriving this morning, the weather gods do not seem to be honoring my request for spring weather. since this means i remain stuck in my daily ensemble of jeans, boots and a baggy sweater, i’ve decided to incorporate some fresh footwear into the mix with a white ankle boot. while not the easiest to pull off, this look has been a big celebrity favorite, esp. among the jenner/hadid model crowd.

i plan to pair mine with warm neutral basics for now, and transition them to a spring-y skirt or dress later (i love how hello fashion paired a silk scarf dress with the stella mccartney tortoise heel ones). check out more of my favorite options, including topshop, asos, these rag & bone, a suede m.gemi version, mid calf height by via spiga and this pair by schutz.

work it girl

ah, dreaded monday is here again.

a friend of mine is starting a new job at a tech startup this week and reached out for some advice on how to nail a very casual office dress code. While most people would be psyched to have the freedom to wear pretty much whatever you want to work, as a female who’s grown up in pretty formal business settings, I can relate to how untethering this transition might be. sometimes too many choices can be overwhelming.

first, let’s source some inspiration…

as you can see highlighted in many of the shots above, there are a few staples any working girl should own. these include a white cashmere crewneck, well tailored cropped black pants, a pointy flat (these or these) and a navy blazer. however, outside those parameters, i have come up with a pretty standard recipe of key items for getting dressed in a hurry monday – friday.

my six piece recipe:

Links (listed left to right)

studs: j.crew    elizabeth & james    blue nile    tiffany

jackets: iro    banana republic    helene berman

bags: asos    tory burch    proenza schouler    bvlgari

tops: banana republic    theory    iris & ink

bottoms: tibi    re/done    rebecca taylor    iro

shoes: jcrew    nicholas kirkwood   ann taylor    frye

CPs- are there things I missed? what are some of your go-to work staples? let me know!

sleek slides

the steamy nyc heat has been making me want to be as unfussy as possible. Introducing the slide – i.e. a shoe that requires no buckling, tying or otherwise unnecessary bending over to put on. The last time I had a pair of slip ons, I begged for a pair of Adidas pool shoes with the spikey bottoms, circa 2nd or 3rd grade. (Those were The. Bees. Knees. at swim team…did anyone else have those?). Now I’m ready to introduce them back into my adult life, with a more elevated black leather pair.

the homeless librarian look

Anddddds the blog is back! Thanks for hanging in there while my site mimicked my life for a while and looked like a hot mess.

Screen Shot 2015-05-25 at 8.23.21 PM

since my work day starts at 5:45, my typical outfit selection process goes like this…

a. “im cold, i need something warm”

b. “im tired, i need something comfortable”

c. “im cold, tired, AND late, shit, i have to put on the first clean thing i find…GO”

and this is why i often refer to my office wardrobe as “homeless librarian chic,” with the chic part being verrry ironic (see an old post on the same topic here).

since i am in major need of an office ensemble reboot (i’m under the impression looking put together may lead people to think i am put together), i need pieces simple enough to mix and match a million times, but they need to be special enough not to need many accessories (thus eliminating an entire step and 2-3 precious minutes), while maintaining the always precious comfort factor. here’s an idea of the upgraded vibe i’m going for.

office attire1. pearl ear jackets

2. M. Gemi black mules (obsessed with this new brand! more on this to come)

3. striped pencil skirt

4. silk tank

5. grey cardigan (more comfortable than a blazer and worthy of the librarian title)

hopefully i can get my blog, myself AND my work wardrobe organized. Wish me luck! Xx
