lux for less

My closet’s been eyeing a wealth of new goodies for the season, but my wallet’s still crying over a summer of too much travel, sun, and fun. What’s a girl to do? Find the look, for less.

Here are 5 of fashion week’s latest must haves, in budget friendly form.

fur jacket: left (helmut lang), right (zara)

statement earrings: left (furbish), right (lizzie fortunato)

gucci dress: left (scotch & soda), right (gucci)

satin mules: left (the row), right (mango)

man (repeller) crush monday

for any of you that follow me on pinterest, i have a board called “bombsh” i.e. bombshells. in my lingo this is code for a bunch of bad ass girls who inspire me. chief among them is leandra medine, founder of the blog the man repeller, funny as hell fashionista, and all around bamf. while some of her outfits verge on the kookier side of things, no matter what i always admire her chutzpah– i mean the girl is fearless when it comes to fashion. to inspire us all to be a little more bold, ive rounded up some medine inspire ensembles and summarized her rules to live by.

#1 layers are your friend. leandra always mixes old pieces different ways to create new looks, layering things in unexpected ways and keeping your closet fresh. to ease into the layerning game try a sweater over a slip dress and add a vest, all in a neutral palette.

#2 dont be scared of color. turquoise + navy too much? nah, never. throw on some tasseled heels and make the whole look oversized, but keep shapes simple.

bundle up

hello loversssss (or as Carrie Bradshaw would say- luh vaaas) sorry it’s been forever since I’ve checked in- lot’s of change has been going on in this chic peas world- including a new job, a new apartment and a new city (hello nyc!) i am finally in my happy place -surrounded by shopping, street style and all sorts of sartorial inspiration! while i would love to upgrade my wardrobe like yesterday (why is everyone here so fashionable?!) it’s going to be a work in progress. but since the leaves have started turning and i’ve been weathering some chilly mornings on the way to work, first priorities are some new staples to help me bundle up.

bundle up 2

#1 sweaters– first on my check list is a nubby sweater or two to keep the chill off. loving this AllSaints cable style, a chunky turtleneck from H&M, a shearling cardigan (be ahead of the curve- shearling is super in right now) or an edgy zippered look from Helmut Lang.

#2 skinny bottoms– while i may or may not have made an impulse purchase at Vince last week (shh mom, dont look!) im on the hunt for some other legging options aside from the leather look. so far i’ve rounded up this waxed burgundy moto style, this cool textured knit pair and this ahhhmayzing pair of printed floral jeggings.

#3 boots– when i saw these Loeffler Randall boots our eyes made contact, we fell in love and ive never looked back. while i plan on keeping my feet firmly planted in them most of october- january, i have a feeling i may need to cheat on these with maybe this Tory pair as another option. (check out this great madewell pair for a dressier option!)
