shop willow

With rapidly rising temps, I’ve been busy planning a season of beach vacations, pool side afternoons and three day weekends to escape the heat. However, I have yet to adequately prepare my vacation wardrobe to match these sunny locales. As is usually the case, I realize I’m in need of a cover up or straw hat the night before I leave (or worse- at the actual destination!) The remedy to this problem? Stocking up at Willow.

Willow is the recently launched brain child of a close friend, Catherine Anne Lowden. Willow sources the best caftans, OTS tops, beach bags, swimsuits and easy breezy resort wear from different artisans around the world and curates an easily shopable selection online. as an added perk, her limited quantity items ensure no one will ever have the same items as you.

As the girl in our Hampton’s house of twelve with the most enviable summer wardrobe, on and off the beach, we can all attest she knows her stuff. Last week I got the chance to visit her adorable office in Greenwich and snap a few behind the scenes pics…

the london beat

Cheers loves– hope you all had a great weekend. i’m back in action after a quick trip across the pond last week for work. it was my first time in the UK and I absolutely loved it. i’m sure this statement will offend any brits reading, but to me, London is kind of like New York and Paris had a baby: a hybrid city with the fast-paced energy of New York + the history and beauty of continental Europe. i stayed at the adorable stafford hotel, right on St James Park, and during my free time got to hit a few of the high points– including big ben, buckingham palace and the churchill war rooms, plus dinner at the ever exclusive 5 hertford eating club (thanks boss!). here’s a few highlights but see more pictures from my trip here.

as always, i was on the hunt for the latest and greatest sartorial inspiration (does it make me a freak that trend spotting is literally my favorite travel past time?), and london ladies did not disappoint. while most of my time was spent in the west end (the UES equivalent) among a sea of trench coats, cardigans and dignifiedly dressed professionals, i got some extra London flavor walking around Notting Hill and vintage shopping on Portobello road. my favorite finds included some chunky turquoise indian jewelry, a very rocker esque leather jacket, a colorful embroidered clutch, and scooping up a b.a.n.a.n.a.s stop-the-printing-presses worthy 70s cocktail dress for a friends upcoming nuptials. i squeezed a lot in for just 48 hours! the highlights of my fashion field work are below.

what’s hot now in london town:

  • red loafers. while i was amazed (and adored) the wide variety of flats, loafers and lace up oxfords i saw trekking around, all a true testament to brits no-nonsense attitude, my favorites were a pair of bright red gucci loafers i saw with slim black work pants. they were punchy plus practical and made an otherwise boring work outfit look effortlessly cool.

  • embroidered denim. while le catch always seems to beat me to the punch, i saw quite a few city go-ers donning the latest embellished pairs, which i think will be big this spring and even more popular come fall. there’s something slightly 90s about these (did anyone else have some from Lucky brand in middle school?), but are a welcome change to my constant rotation of distressed skinny jeans. while i doubt this will be a long lasting trend, try an inexpensive pair from topshop or gap (currently 40% off).

  • neck scarves. while entirely useless from a warmth perspective, i saw a handful of bold chic peas rocking square scarves tied cheekily around their necks, bags and wrists (reminds me of the bandanas featured in the spring ’16 Coach collection). worn with everything from sweatshirts to dresses and silk blouses, they made a strong statement and had me wanting to tie one on, literally.

  • mini bags. crossbodies have been the bags du jour for the last 2-3 years, but in london, it seems the trend towards shrinking continues and the smaller the bag the better. the most popular styles i saw were the ruched miu miu, the celine phantom made teeny, the fendi minis, and a few boxy styles like this zac posen.

  • blue blazers. as any fashionista knows, a good outfit is all about balance. UK girls haven’t given up on staple items like a navy blazer or a cardigan to balance out trendy items. i love the look of this classic prep school item mixed with jeans or a midi skirt, especially when it has a slightly nautical feel to the cut.

the lux list

wow–where did november go?! ill spare you the summary of turkey day and skip right over to one of my least favorite upcoming holidays. call me scrooge, but christmas (especially the decorating and subsequent clean up) and stress of present buying, combined with unseasonably warm weather in nyc, has me feeling very bah humbug. as an attempt to get in the spirit , ive rounded up a few of my dream Christmas gifts. while the price tags on these babies is not for the faint of heart, consider this list my equivalent of the NM gift book–anything goes! 7 lux gifts worthy of lasting a lifetime…

#1 hermes scarf– while im not the biggest silk scarf wearer, these always look so classy and are great to collect (and if you don’t feel like wearing it, take a page from this smart cookie and turn them into a piece of art)   hermes scarf

#2 burberry trench– inspired by my favorite little Burberry-clad Brit LKH. yes the idea of writing a $2,000 check for a raincoat makes me slightly sick, but you know you’d wear the heck out of it. and the nova check will always be timeless.

#3 cartier love bracelet– the perfect gift for the hopeless romantic. what could be better than unbreakable love, cartier and 18k gold?? yaaaaaas please.

#4 elegant evening bag– evening bags are one place i don’t typically spend a lot of money (particularly because they don’t get a lot of use) but a special bag can take your LBD up a notch season after season. the neutral suede paired with gold on this sleek maiyet one is dreamy perfection.

#5 red chanel flats- although these would be perfect for the holiday season, i love the idea of red flats for a pop of color all year round. I loved the way Caitlin wore them here

#6 a great piece of art- one of the most special things my mom has taught me is the value of investing in great art. unlike clothes, you look at your surroundings every day, so we think art is one area worth truly splurging on. some of my favorite artists id love to own are sally king benedict, kate long stevenson, karin olah, and teil duncan
