ulla love

victoria salsbury, a former designer at Chan Luu and now the chief creative of her own new jewelry line V. Chapman, gave me major outfit ~feels~ in an Ulla Johnson dress on insta this weekend. her look inspired me to find a similar dress for an upcoming early fall wedding. ulla’s breezy, romantic styles are the perfect compliment to crisper air and the changing season.

cuckoo for cobalt

i usually tend to gravitate towards the younger, edgier red carpet looks over more traditional “pageant gowns.” kiernan shipka is always a favorite of mine, as is emma stone, but it’s still unclear WTF happened to emma watson last sunday (did a toddler attack her bangs?… blechk). so i know this pick will be contentious, but nicole kidman was easily my best dressed from the Oscars. the shape, the sheen, the bow, the boning, the color, the shoe….and lets not forget, HER BOD. all flawless.

i mean??????????? i would die a happy woman if i looked half as good as her on my wedding day, let alone AT AGE 50.

jennifer garner and several others also wore this shocking shade and killed it…which is making me feel the need to infuse a little cobalt into my own wardrobe. try it for yourself, with a few more plebeian picks.

#1 the draped top. for a cocktail party or GNO, how effortless and breezy.

#2 the body con dress— doesn’t this remind you something blake lively would wear? love the vintage inspired cut and long sleeves.

#3 the cute suit. i bought several one pieces last summer and am unlikely to turn back anytime soon. try this strappy version or a budget friendly find, both of which can go straight from the pool to lunch with a skirt, jeans or shorts.

#4 the extraaa earring. ostrich feathers? yes please. these would be so fun with a basic white dress and a low pony or bun. if tassels are more your style, try these instead.

#5 the monochrome outfit. i fell in love a few weeks ago with this bold monochrome look. the OTS top would be great stand alone with white jeans, but the matching wide leg pants make it feel very miami-ish.

#6 the heeled mule. how amazing would these be with a pleated skirt and baggy sweater? or as the perfect pop to any all black outfit.

#7 the mini. get the hue and the bow like Nicole with this black halo option.

ok now it’s time for input, what was your favorite look of the night?

the black sheep

last week while perusing a few other fashion blogs (you can see an old list of ones i frequently read here), i stumbled across a yogurt launch on pink peonies. the topic of how i feel about using a fashion blog to launch a yoplait product is something i will save for another day (i lol-ed so hard at a reader’s comment that the event was nicer than her wedding, #amen girl). however, i was immediately struck by the image below, of a bonafide fashionista in a striking black jumpsuit– the black sheep of the group among a sea of pastel sameness.

I meannnn…how bananas does she look??! the haircut, the nail color, the sunnies….it strikes the perfect balance of trendy and classic…like she could have spent 3 hours or 3 minutes putting this look together.

i was already on the war path to recreate the look for myself, with an ordinary black romper, but as fate would have it, an unrelated scroll of h&m’s new arrivals a few days later found me THE EXACT ONE— grommets in the back and all. for a whopping $49!!!! mic drop.

since this insanely chic item is not likely to last, get yourself one before they’re gone. Now let’s deconstruct the rest of her epic look below…

1— h&m lace up jumpsuit

2— sculptural gold cuff (hers is fendi, now sold out)

3— a pop of coral lipstick

4round sunnies a la john lennon

5— chloe bracelet handled bag

6— simple beige mules

7–nars metallic polish

8— gold bauble bar drops

all tee-d up

while i am still slightly shellshocked from my A&F tee days, and thus taking longer than usual to warm up to this street style look, the graphic tee is making a big comeback. while the granddaddy of the trend is this retro gucci option, worn in the first picture, there are tons of lower cost options available. the key to looking like it’s 2017 and not 1997? look for slightly boxy (never fitted!) cut, with bold simple font and a crisp white shade.

i love the idea of pairing one with my overalls, jean cut offs, or juxtaposed with a frilly skirt and sneakers for a “summer in the cit-ayy” kind of vibe. get the look from the last inspo below…. and check out my other favorite tee options here, here, here and here

1- bauble bar ring set

2- marc jacobs goldtone watch

3- saint laurent initial necklace

4- madewell t-shirt tank

5- gucci marmont bag

6- monica vinader fiji bracelet

7- veronica beard gingham skirt (feeling the print? see more gingham options)

8- essie polish in blanc
