work it girl

ah, dreaded monday is here again.

a friend of mine is starting a new job at a tech startup this week and reached out for some advice on how to nail a very casual office dress code. While most people would be psyched to have the freedom to wear pretty much whatever you want to work, as a female who’s grown up in pretty formal business settings, I can relate to how untethering this transition might be. sometimes too many choices can be overwhelming.

first, let’s source some inspiration…

as you can see highlighted in many of the shots above, there are a few staples any working girl should own. these include a white cashmere crewneck, well tailored cropped black pants, a pointy flat (these or these) and a navy blazer. however, outside those parameters, i have come up with a pretty standard recipe of key items for getting dressed in a hurry monday – friday.

my six piece recipe:

Links (listed left to right)

CPs- are there things I missed? what are some of your go-to work staples? let me know!

spring in your step

cynthia rowley, while always a print master, has recently broadened her aesthetic to a more modern, young look. i’ve been eyeing several dresses from her latest collection– everything from ruffled minis to lace sheaths, brocade prints, knits, and even a few super glam printed gowns. for any occasion on your spring social calendar, she likely has the thing to wear. there’s nothing like a new dress (and fun invitation) to put a little spring in your step.

  • for your birthday (or a bachelorette!)…

girl at the rock show

TGIF chicpeas! i dont know about you, but it’s taken me a lot of angry teen rock music to get through this week, especially Blink 182’s take off your pants and jacket album, which has been on heavy rotation (do it- you’ll feel better).

band tees have made a big comeback in street style of late, as you can see from the bloggerinas below. as a result, i’ve been inspired to edge up my typically conservative style and make it a little more ‘rock and roll’ by incorporating a faded tee, leather and some studs. try some for yourself, get angsty, and and prepare to party all weekend long…

1– leather jacket 2–cat eye shades 3– choker 4– cherry tee (another great option)

5– studded backpack  6– military jacket 7– sleek sneaks 8– crystal shades 9– rainbow hoops

10– beats headphones  11– leather pants 12–vegan leather skirt 13– moto boots

14– waistless denim  15– embellished crossbody 16– faded logo tee 17– shirred tank

love on top

valentine’s day may have been last week, but this weekend led to two new heart-themed discoveries. first up, new-to-me artist two friends, and their song out of love, which i’ve already forced my friends to listen to a few too many times (does anyone else get like that when they discover a new jam?!) second, this frilly heart splattered zimmermann frock. the bow shoulders and black/white color palette are such an early 90’s throwback, I can picture julia roberts’ character in pretty woman rocking it. for an upcoming spring fête, i plan to doll it up very extraaa with a pair of strappy heels, red lipstick, and some vintage YSL earrings (or these). can you say luuuurve! <3
