mad for mango

this is a new type of post for me….the dressing room diaries… so please be nice! i would love feedback on whether you love or hate this idea.

last week i went to return a pair of pants at mango and ending up spending an hour in the dressing room with all sorts of great finds. they really have been nailing it lately. so, i decided to document the process!

i frequently feature items on le blog without seeing them in person, and i thought this would be a great way to show how some things look in real life, especially since there were so many things i loved but did not end up buying. a professional photographer/fit model i am not (I’m 5’3″ for reference), but hopefully you will still enjoy these behind the scene snaps!

the printed silk dress

i absolutely loved this dress and may head back to buy it. the deep V neckline and ruching was so flattering! it would be perfect for a summer cocktail party or wedding. i also tried on this green version, which has a similar garden party type of vibe but was a little more matronly. if you’re looking for an inexpensive way to nail the floral dress trend, there are a bunch more options on their website to peruse. lastly, i tried on this slinky jumpsuit –sadly it was way too long in the torso on me– but would be a great option for taller gals.

the knit tank

i loved the idea of this top, paired with some dark flared jeans for a 70’s sort of look. however, i couldn’t decide if the actual fit was actually more beverly hills 90210 in reality. this one didn’t come home but i went with a boxier tassel style to pair with shorts.

the funky flats

i was immediately obsessed with these embellished burnt orange mules, which reminded me of something a very cool interior designer gal i know would wear. as i have found with most mules, they run a tad small so size up 1/2 size. my practical brain prevailed, however, and i decided these silver ballet flats were something i could actually incorporate into both my corporate and weekend wardrobe. they are super comfy and look much like a newly released everlane style.

the oversized button mini

i wanted this dress after seeing it on the ever chic jacey dupree, but decided very much that, unlike her, i looked like a flight attendant in it. the black was a little too harsh on me and the neckline has a rounded collar that i just didn’t love. au revoir oversized buttons.

other things i purchased and didn’t document? this baggy short sleeve sweater, these marni inspired resin earrings, and a slouchy pair of plaid pants.

still want more mango? my online cart currently holds this striped linen dress which is a dupe for this hit faithfull style, a netted bucket bag (the perfect summer statement piece!), some high-waisted belted shorts that channel Julia Roberts in pretty woman, and an office friendly sleeveless knit. shop on #mangogirls!

the shape of water

YALL. has everyone seen the shape of water? i watched it on a plane home from SF last night and cannot get over it– the depth of character development, the unusual story line, the gorgeous cinematography, the attention to each and every tiny detail weaving in and out throughout the film…. talk about a work of art.

while obviously this film was very hyped at the oscars, i had put off seeing it because a) pan’s labyrinth scared the ever living s&*t out of me, which was the last big film by this director, and b) i have an extremely hard time sitting still for an entire movie, so i figured i needed to watch it at a time when i was feeling ready to focus, in order give it a fair chance. maybe it was being trapped on an airplane, but i was completely captivated. and don’t get me started on the ending– i won’t give away any spoilers, but text or email me to please discuss, because i am OVERWHELMED (can you ever just be “whelmed”?) and need someone to talk to about it. so there’s that.

the second mind blowing discovery of the day? lychee ice cream. THANK YOU JET BLUE. i have found a new non-sartorial obsession in this stuff. it’s light, creamy, not too sweet and completely worth the lactose-induced belly ache. do any readers know where i can procure such a delicacy at sea level?

don’t go knockin’ on my door

looking for the absolute easiest (and sweat proof!) way to add a little fash-un to an ordinary outfit? oversized gold earrings take any look up a few notches…

the other weekend i had no idea what to wear (do i ever?!) and settled on a black tank paired with some oversized vintage clip-ons. i ended up getting several inquiries on them, which took me down an etsy/pinterest/real real rabbit hole hunting for more the next day.

while i’m partial to the “door knocker” 80’s style (the horizontal loops like #5, which look great with a low ponytail btw), there are such a range of awesome styles available right now, and many bargain finds. especially as the temperature rises, bold earrings are such an easy thing to put on, elevating any basic tank top or shirt dress into a fashionista-worthy ensemble.

a round up of picks below..

1– joanna laura constantine ($205)   2– mango ($20)   3– faye andrada ($285)

want some vintage options? my favorites are these, these, these and these

going gaga

while it may still be thirty degrees out, i have spring fashion and bare legs as my current top priorities (PLSZZZ GOD at least this weekend!!!)

thankfully, zara just dropped some amazingggg bargain buys right now, including this button down dress which is comparable to this way more expensive tibi. i went a little gaga and did a huge order this week, with lots of fresh white tops for the weekend and easy dresses for work. i can’t wait to see what works! hilariously, almost every item (sans this bright headband, which i plan to wear pool side) that found its way into my cart was white or navy, so I guess that’s my official color palette this spring. did i mention that you, too, can go gaga since every item i bought was less than $70!

what i bought…
