werk it

I am probably the last person on the planet to watch the movie the Intern…I think it was a combination of being scarred from watching the first half of The Internship, the worst movie ever (titles are too close for comfort, imho) and hating Anne Hathaway. However a rainy night and HBO Go led me down the rabbit hole, and I ended up loving the movie. How precious was Robert De Niro??

One of my favorite parts, as with any movie, was Annie Boo’s serious work wardrobe. As a pretend fashion startup CEO, the girl had serious fashion game, a mix of tailored, slightly boyish pieces that perfectly matched the vibe of her Park Slope townhouse, despite sleeping 4 hours a night and having a toddler. Ah life according to Hollywood *sigh*. However, the movie did kickstart me to refresh my work wardrobe. A few new necessities…

#1 a pussybow blouse. this isn’t the first season of this school girl inspired trend, but the fall I’m seeing all sorts of variations popping up. I particularly love this slightly western dvf style, a bargain find from h&m and an all white version by frame.

#2 a light blazer. not just for memorial – labor day anymore, a well tailored white, grey or cream blazer has now secured its place on any working girls list of staples year round. try this one from RL’s club monaco, a classic by rag & bone (60% off!), or a light grey veronica beard.

#3 borrowed from the boys footwear. footwear this fall is all about masculine-looking loafers, brogues and flat slides. i’m lusting over these metallic loafers, these tasseled loeffler randall oxfords, a classic jcrew pair of brogues and a copycat tabitha simmons black & white everlane pair.

#4 a work appropriate sweater. for cooler days ahead, ‘nuf said. try stripes by sonia rykiel, ruffles by rebecca taylor (i tried this on at saks last week and may have to have it), an embroidered ann taylor and a rolled neck vince version.

#5 sharp accessories. to add pizazz to any old outfit, try a skinny leather beltsleek nude backpack (or this one!), and timeless square faced watch.

white hot

following up on last week’s jet set files, i saw Ivanka Trump‘s white lace sightseeing outfit on instagram this weekend and had to find the source. all politics aside, the girl not only looks super cute on vacation, but as a working mom of 3, she qualifies for total #girlboss status in my mind (+ wendi’s outfit isn’t bad either). the easy, breezy top and short set is by English Factory and you can get them on shopbop here.  my other favorite summer picks from the brand include this ruffled denim romper, a chic mock neck dress and this sheer zigzag tank (on sale!)

strap happy

happy fri-yay! as we finish off the last few blessed weekends of summer and step into fall, meet this seasons new it shoe silhouette, the strappy mary jane. (see what I did there?) while mary janes might remind you of childhood church and/or back to school uniforms, these ladylike styles are an updated, more structured version of last year’s popular lace up flats. they’re perfect for work with some J.Crew martie pants and a pullover sweater, or to jazz up an old favorite dress for an easy date look. check out this cp rocking a serious pair at paris fashion week…

the italian job

at this time of year, my instagram feed has been blowing up with photos of folks’ incredible summer get-aways. spanning from local northeastern jaunts of the hamptons, maine, and the cape, to out west in lake tahoe, SF and santa barbara, all the way to greece, croatia and Capri, it seems like everyone’s on vacation. chief among these enviable options has been fashionista miraslava duma’s month long italian getaway. she’s been posting amazing shots of the amalfi coast (and of her even more amazing wardrobe) —see them all here. her easy breezy looks are seriously drool worthy, made up of light fabrics, straw totes, and bold sunnies, with just the right amount of drama. plus, the girl knows how to rock a headwrap like whoa. Put together, it equals one seriously stylish mama.

one of the most striking was her in a printed silk halter dress by hermes. its so effortlessly cool, and the print is perfect for showing off a well worked on tan. her dress isnt available online (you can get a similar looking pareo), or do yourself a favor and snap up the lookalike zara version while its still in stock. for those of us without the accompanying boat, its perfect for a breezy bbq, sipping cocktails poolside or dressed up with heels at a late summer wedding.
