studded dress, two ways

my weekly Zara perusal discovered a plethora of new spring arrivals–first up this amazing t-shirt dress. the studs pretty much scream isabel marant, its basic enough to go with everything, and it exudes just the right about of edge to not be boring. i will be wearing it now (with tights and 12 layers on top, so let’s skip that look), transitioning into spring and carrying it straight into the heat of summer. it’s a steal at $99 so grab one for yourself before it sells out!

transitional weather (spring/fall) for cooler days, layer a leather vest or jacket for warmth (love this allsaints style) and booties for a football game or concert

           1. Zara dress

           2. triangle studs to add another shape without adding too much additional bling

           3. a printed cross body by clare vivier— the polka dots acceptable post adolescence

           4. fringe boots balance out the biker vest with a cowgirl vibe

           5. vince leather vest (actually scored this exact style at TJ Maxx last weekend)

dog days of summer this dress is the perfect travel outfit– knee high gladiators balance out the asymmetrical hem and keep the bohemian vibe going

          1. Zara dress

          2. simple arm party by chan luu to add some extra color

          3. shades– prada sunnies may break the bank but always make for a great sunny day

          4. sandals (also try the always super comfortable stuart weitzman version–love the gold!)

perfect pout

sorry for the lack of pink, red and rose themed valentines day post chic peas, quite frankly i have and will likely always hate the holiday. (SEK you were right, V stands for Valentine’s Vodka in our current age demographic). however, the negative temperatures are affecting my pout and today i’ve rounded up a few tricks for getting rid of chapped lips. perfect for kissing your sweetie…or not.

#1 prep the number one step before you moisturize is always to get the dead skin off (ew!) and exfoliate. this sugar scrub works wonders. as does the old fashioned method of a tub of vaseline and an old tooth brush.

#2 protect– ladies of new york (frost yourselves!)–if you haven’t tried Clinique super balm yet, you must. it is literally the best chap stick/lip treatment I have ever found (and I have done the beta testing to feel pretty confident in my findings). for $15 is one of the most affordable options out there. i was a die hard kiehls girl until i found this bad boy, and literally the weight/tackiness of the gloss (not sticky!) stays on long and really does its job. my friends will confirm my obsession by the fact i now have one stuck in every jacket pocket/purse/desk drawer so i will never be caught without it.

#3 (optional) color i am definitely not a big colored lip fan other than the occasional saturday night out, but in my current pale state, a little color does wonders (cuhh luhhh in requisite steel magnolias pronunciation). my alabama-bred roomie is a true lipstick girl and swears by a neutral laura mercier in plum. if you’re into darker colors, my edgy gal pal CHG introduced me to this amazing stain by YSL. in any case, look for a non-drying formula that won’t undo all the goodness of step 1 and 2.

CPs any other tips/tricks i’ve missed? what are the best lip products you’ve found lately?

that b!$#h in the hair salon

the absolute best and worst thing about living in New York is you never know exactly where your day will take you. such is the case last weekend–when I had a simple Saturday planned; activities included sleeping in, going on a run, and getting my hair cut. fast forward to 4pm in the saks handbag department and im signing over my life for a new purse that costs more than my monthly rent.

so what went awry with this plan, you ask? six simple words. that b!$#h in the hair salon.

chic euro

there i was, innocently getting my hair cut. when i was bombarded by some beautiful creature- undoubtedly either a model or one of those rich tall foreign girls who innocently strolls around the west village with a fur coat and sneakers on (you know the type i’m talking about). and she was carrying the most beautiful bag. this one exactly.

givenchy nightingale

blame the fumes from the keratin or the green eyed monster or a few too many episodes being brainwashed by Carrie Bradshaw drop $400 on shoes, but it was in that moment that i needed one. not a want, but an actual as-essential-as-oxygen basic need. so fast forward 3 hours and two cab rides later and there i was. i tried to do the whole mature pro/con thing and marinate on my decision, but it was pretty much game over from the hair salon onwards.

givenchy pandora

many of you will read this story and likely be disgusted (my mother among them) at how someone could be so frivolous and extravagant to make this impulse purchase. especially by the fact it was out of jealousy of someone else having one. and i hear you 110%. the practical, analytical side of my brain could not agree more. but the other side of me–the illogical purse buying side–thinks that maybe its ok. maybe its a great thing even, that i bought myself such a splurge; because i work hard to be practical and responsible 99% (95%?) of the time……and you might just have to be a little crazy to drop that much moola on one bag.

givenchy pandora 2

so there’s my latest confession in the name of fashion. CPs–anyone have a similar story to share?

the sneaker fad has been in for a while, and while i have my fair share of supergas and converse for the summer, im in need of a heartier pair to brave the cold. my search had led me to this amazing loeffler randall pair, some color blocked new balance ones and a basic pair of nikes. ill take all 3! Screen Shot 2015-02-07 at 9.18.51 AM
