red hot

Thissss little guy arrived in the mail today from shopbop (of course I couldn’t resist last weeks 25% off sale) and this little chic pea couldn’t be happier. I plan on using it as a pop of color for my typically mundane winter outfits (i.e. all black.) It was the perfect pick me up after a busy monday. If you need some inspa for how to wear it, Whitney of See Shop Eat Do looks uber cute with hers. Get all the colors here.

date night

After a long sunday phone chat with one of my besties, hearing all about her exciting single gal love life in NYC, I’ve got dates, and more importantly, date outfits, on the brain. The idea of crisp evening air, buttery leather jackets, and going out to meet someone new seem so quintessentially fall and romantic (like the opening to a rom com.) Here’s an outfit I’m dying to wear- for girls night, date night or dinner with friends.

To start off, this body con ribbed dress. It’s thick fabric and the bustier detail make it sexy without trying too hard. Very Rachel Bilson, n’est-ce pas? Disclaimer- I did order this dress hoping all of the above dreams would come true, but it did not work out for me (petite girls beware) but I am still so in love with it, I’m hoping to one day live in a world where me and said dress make nice.

A leather jacket has always been one of my go tos for nights out over the last few years, but unless you live under a rock, you know leather is IT this season. It’s literally everywhere. I’m pretty sure leather jackets are going to pop up at the grocery store one of these days. (But i digress…) At least the increased popularity has sprouted some great styles- like this classic one by Dorothy Perkins (love the simplicity), this great cropped one by alice + olivia (on sale!) or a trimmed cotton option by Vince

For shoes, I love the idea of a heeled clog or chunky bootie. These rebecca minkoffs are from a few seasons ago, but you could also wear it with a simple suede pour la victoire bootie (I own this pair and wear to death) or a similar pair by Steve Madden.

I feel like there are a lot of bag and accessory options for this outfit, based on how dressy you wanted to be. The trendy option would be a cool bucket bag (I’ve been eyeing this Alexander Wang one that’s been in a lot of street style pics), but you could also be classic with a Chanel 2.55.

My personal fave would be a bright clutch, like this beaded one by Jason Woo (can’t. breathe.- don’t care that its a cool $2500, daring to dream here) or my initialed clare vivier.

geek chic

This morning was a gray, rainy Monday, and after gauging my tiredness from the weekend, I immediately decided comfort was key. It is finally starting to feel like fall around here so I pulled out a favorite sweater and tried to channel a retro marc jacobs/ marni/ geek chic kind of look with some simple basics.

While I usually look like a nerd at work (I mean, I work in a cubicle, in finance- enough said) today’s attempt was deliberate.

theory pants

Theory is my go to for work basics, but I always wait to find it on sale, since it barely changes between seasons. The sweater was a steal from T.J. Maxx and the pants are a recent sale purchase at Neimans (my exact pair isn’t pictured.) The subtle check and cropped length are very Betty Draper 60’s ish.

I added my favorite pair of chunky heels (some of the most comfortable ones I own, FYI- highly recommend) and my favorite carry all to schlep around all my work necessities. It’s another Maxxinista steal by some random designer, which has been mistaken for one by Tom Ford and another by the Row (I haven’t been able to find my bag, which is black, online, but I found one in olive on eBay so you get the idea.)

I finished my look with a pair of glasses I scored while working at DVF. Sometimes boring basics are chic, right?

girl crush

Nothing makes me happier than when my pinterest collects images I actually love, i.e. does the work for me. This popped up on my home page yesterday, a street style photo from one of the various fashion weeks im sure, and instantly I had a new girl crush. This lady has it going on. I am not usually a fan of a graphic t with a dressier look (although it seems to have been a look iconized by J.crew in every one of their catalogs since 5th grade, so I should be used to it by now.) This girl, however- rocks it.Screen shot 2013-10-06 at 11.48.31 AM

This outfit is the answer I have been searching for- how to look fall-ready without sweating to death in 90 degree Carolina september heat. The skirt is literally the perfect transition item- sheer material and slits make it comfortably cool but the color and abstract poppy print are a perfect ode to fall.  The red lip, arm party, and Celine bag (drool) plus her sick shades (look like Karen Walker to me)  and a good pair of lace up heels, like I wrote on here. Ugh. So good. I’m officially in love.

After hours of searching for a similar skirt, which I won’t totally give up on yet- since it is a key essential to this look. (I just don’t understand- why isn’t every woman in the world rushing out to buy one of these??) I’ve had to swap in more of a pencil style one from Zara (guess I’ll have to add my own slit.) I also love this midi style from Michael Kors. On top, there are endless graphic t possibilities, but I love the humor of this Homies shirt (so funny) or go the standard route with one from J.Crew.

For shoe options, I found these basic red lace ups from Sole Society (last season), a color blocked pair on sale by Burak Uyan, and a plum colored pair from VS.

Top it off with red lipstick and this fashion editor favorite Celine bag- and you’re set.
